Ignoring Tax Amnesty, Tax Employers Must Be Careful!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government ensures that taxpayers who do not participate in the Voluntary Disclosure Program (PPS) aka tax amnesty will be subject to severe sanctions. This sanction is in the form of a fine of 200% or twice the amount of unreported assets.

Special Staff to the Minister of Finance Yustinus Prastowo is very optimistic that many tax evaders will join this program. Because this is the last chance to repent.

"We are optimistic (many participate in PPS) because after the 2016 tax amnesty, we do not have access to information disclosure and only rely on unilateral reports from taxpayers. Currently we have them," he said, Friday (12/24/2021).

According to him, after the tax amnesty volume I, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has a powerful weapon to track evaders, namely the Automatic Exchange of Information (AEoI). Through this policy, Indonesia can exchange data with other countries for tax purposes.

"After the 2016 tax amnesty, the government has wider access to the financial sector and a capable system so that taxpayer profiling is stronger," he explained.

In addition, through the Law on the Harmonization of Tax Regulations (HPP) the government has another powerful weapon, namely the unification of NIK and NPWP. In this case, the NIK will be used as a tax identity so that taxpayers can no longer run away.

"Don't forget, we at HPP have the integration of NIK and NPWP. This is for monitoring business and business activities and taxpayers' income," he said.

Furthermore, the government has also collaborated with several countries to work together to collect taxes owed by taxpayers residing in other countries.

"We also have affirmations of strengthening in terms of the tax system which encourages assistance in global tax collection. So we can collect taxes owed in Indonesia whose taxpayers are abroad," he said.

With so many policies and a stronger system owned by taxpayers, he is sure the evaders will repent. "In the past, all of these reinforcements did not exist, now they are provided. So we are optimistic that we are stronger," he concluded.
